OVERVIEW: Comoros is entering a crucial period that could see either the consolidation of the Union government or a serious deterioration in the political environment. Real GDP growth is unlikely to exceed 1% this year. The current-account deficit is forecast to widen marginally in 2008, before narrowing slightly in 2009 as imports fall owing to the weakening of the Comorian franc.
